Supporting breastfeeding

Our commitment: Support breastfeeding and protect it by continuing to implement an industry-leading policy to market breast-milk substitutes responsibly

As breast milk is considered the ideal nutrition for infants, we promote the World Health Organisation (WHO)’s recommendation to exclusively breastfeed infants for the first 6 months, followed by the introduction of adequate nutritious complementary foods, along with sustained breastfeeding for children aged 2 and above.

Our Maternity Protection Policy for our employees, which provides a conducive environment to support breastfeeding among our employees, is being strictly implemented across our workplaces.

In case of barriers to breastfeeding, if mothers and families, in consultation with their health care provider, decide that optimal breastfeeding is not possible, infant formula is the only suitable breast milk substitute (BMS) recommended by the WHO.

In 2016, through our Nestlé Start Healthy Stay Healthy programme, we partnered with several public and private organisations, opening 945 breastfeeding rooms in India.
