NESCAFÉ plan

Our commitment

Continuously improve our green coffee supply chain

The NESCAFÉ plan was implemented in India in 2012 to preserve the rich traditional wisdom of growing coffee and supplementing it with modern science to help in sustainable growing of coffee in the current social and environmental conditions and challenges.

The main objectives of the NESCAFÉ plan are twofold:

  • Contributing in improving the livelihood of coffee farmers and the sustainability of coffee farming through research and development of healthy plantlets and the introduction of best farming practices via a network of agronomists and support workers in coffee growing regions.
  • Ensuring that the future of great quality coffee is assured and that coffee remains available and affordable today and in the future.

The NESCAFÉ Plan has three platforms, connecting to farmers, connecting to communities and connecting to our planet, with the objective of ensuring the future of great quality coffee, to remain available and affordable today and in the future.

As part of the NESCAFÉ plan, we train farmers on the NESCAFÉ Better Farming Practices and assist them for the Common Code for the Coffee Community (4C) Verification. Coffee centres at Kushalnagar, Mudigere and Kalpetta are verified by the 4C Association. Nestlé recognises the efforts of farmers with 4C certification and remunerates them through a premium pay-out. Till 2018, we have reached out to around 2,500 farmers and workers through trainings, technical assistance, medical camp, soil test activities.
