Expanding the geographical footprints of Project ‘Serve Safe Food’ in Tamil Nadu, Nestlé India has continued its collaboration with FDA, Tamil Nadu, and National Association of Street Vendors of India (NASVI) to train over 1,000 street food vendors in Tiruppur and Erode districts, taking the total to 5,600 street food vendors in the state. Since its inception in 2016, Project ‘Serve Safe Food’ has benefitted over 68,500 street food vendors across 26 states and 4 union territories by bringing together various stakeholders to create a comprehensive training programme.
Dr B Vijayalalithambigai, Designated Officer, Food Safety and Drug Administration Department said, “We are extremely happy with the progress made through this collaboration between the Food Safety and Drug Administration Department, NASVI and Nestlé India. More than 4,600 street food vendors in the state have already benefitted from Project Serve Safe Food and we are hopeful that the project will positively impact many more street food vendors in the coming years. Nestlé India launched Project Serve Safe Food in 2016 and has trained street food vendors across states including Assam, Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Goa, Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Manipur, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Odisha, Puducherry, Punjab, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand.
