Expands footprints in five districts; To train more than 1,500 street food vendors
Nestlé India has collaborated with Health Department, Bihar and National Association of Street Vendors of India (NASVI) to expand Project Serve Safe Food in the state. As a part of the project, NASVI will train 1,500 street food vendors in the state across Patna, Gaya, Nalanda, Vaishali and Muzzaffarpur, taking the total number of trained street food vendors past 10,000.
Project ‘Serve Safe Food’ has already benefitted over 92,800 street food vendors across 27 states and 4 Union Territories by educating vendors on health, hygiene, safe food handling, waste disposal and entrepreneurship. The training programme equips vendors with the knowledge to improve their food handling practices.
Dr. Raj Bhushan Choudhary, Minister of State (MoS), Ministry of Jal Shakti (Government of India), said, “Bihar is developing. We are poised for growth on all fronts – industrial, economic, and cultural. This would mean an influx of people in the state, who would get to experience the extremely rich culture first-hand. Food has been an integral part of our culture and it is heartening to see that we are strengthening the street food ecosystem by reinforcing the food safety and hygiene standards among our street food vendors. Nestlé India launched Project Serve Safe Food in 2016 and has trained street food vendors across states including Assam, Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Goa, Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Odisha, Puducherry, Punjab, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand.
