Enjoying Outdoor Activities With Family

What better way to stay healthy by soaking up the sun’s rays while enjoying a variety of fun outdoor activities. The sun naturally raises our mood and, at the same time, helps our bodies make vitamin D. Not only does Vitamin D help to maintain strong bones and teeth it also helps our bodies absorb and use the calcium we need in our diet. So grab some sunscreen and a sun hat and go outside and enjoy some fun activities with your friends and family this summer:

1) Picnic Time

A picnic is a great way to enjoy the summer weather. Pack some refreshing treats including fruits and crunchy vegetables along with a big mat in a basket or a knapsack and head to the park.

2) Salad Bar

Similar to a barbeque, but with a healthy twist. Invite your friends over and try out a variety of interesting salads like pasta salads, fruit salads, Greek salads, garden salads including vegetables like tomato, cucumber, avocados ,olives with cheese, pastas, herbs along with different toppings of mayonnaise, olive oil, honey and mustard dressing, yoghurt and herb dressings etc. Place ingredients at a table, buffet style and enjoy making your own tasty custom salad in the company of your friends.

3) Gardening

Big and small yards may benefit from a landscape makeover. Don’t own a garden? Why not help a friend with their place. It’s a good time to get rid of those old weeds and plant something new.

5) Play Ball

Grab a ball, grab your friends, and head to an open field. Kick, throw, volley, or toss the ball around for a fun workout or invent your own ball game.  For the more athletically inclined, you may want to organize or join a competitive or non-competitive summer sports league. You may find free pick up games throughout the city.

6) Get Moving

Park the car and use alternative modes of transportation to get around to your favourite places. Biking, rollerblading, running and walking are all great ways to save on transportation costs while providing a heart pumping visually stimulating experience. Make sure to protect yourself by wearing a helmet and elbow or knee pads.

7) Take a Dip

Cool off on those hot summer days by visiting your local outdoor pool. Have a noodle race with your friends. Check your local parks and your community recreation website for free swim times. It’s a great way to have a fun and relaxing afternoon and get some exercise.

8) Nature Watch

Become reacquainted with nature by taking a hike on a trail in the hills. Bring the kids and your four legged friend along as well as a camera to capture your adventures on film. Keep an eye out for birds and insects along the way.
